European car imports have been on the increase over the past few years. As buyers of new cars become more aware of the savings, that are readily available to anyone who is prepared to take the time and effort required to import. In return for the time invested the reward are often savings amounting to several thousands of pounds. The amount saved obviously varies in line with the value of the car being imported, also the manufacturer. The performance of the Euro in 1999 against the Sterling has been one the many factors that encouraged more buyers to take the plunge and import.

Some of the hard work can be reduced by going to one the many import brokers that have sprung up to support the demand. It is advisable to do your homework when choosing a broker or import agent, as with most trades there's always someone willing to relieve you of your hard earned cash and not supplied the goods.

When making a purchase you should ensure where ever possible that the car you purchase is full to UK specification this hopefully avoid any. It's not uncommon for the European suppliers to request a deposit often in the region of 20%. You should always try to pay deposits direct to the European dealer who is supplying the vehicle, and using a credit card may give you some protection.
